Welcome to Southwest Scuba
Written by Administrator

Welcome to Southwest Scuba! Rob & Jen moved to Florida in August 2007. Southwest Scuba will remain as an informative site. But all the action is over on our new site: Chipola Divers. Check it out to see what we have to offer in Florida. All of our old pages have been migrated over there. You can read about us, learn how to contact us, and see what's new with us over there. We've also updated many of the pages we had over here!

And we just entered into a partnership with Cave Adventurers! They carry Dive Rite, Oxycheq, Silent Submersion, and many other brands. And they will not be undersold! Their prices are too low to list, which means you won't find a product listing on the site, but give them a call and tell them Rob & Jen sent you. You won't be disappointed. Remember, you pay no tax on gear you buy from out of state. And if you plan on heading out our way to do some more training with us, spend at least $99 (not including shipping) on gear at Cave Adventurers and we'll take 10% off the course fee of any scuba diving course we offer!

The Southwest Scuba site provides scuba divers with information on scuba diving in the southwest region of the United States. You'll find information on scuba diving in lakes, not only in Arizona, but also surrounding states. You'll also find information on scuba diving in the Sea of Cortez, Mexico, Southern California, and Texas.

Dive Report - Lake Pleasant (updated 8/5/07)

Lake Pleasant 7/27/07 to 7/29/07 - We were at the lake to finish up some courses with some students and complete a Rescue Diver course with a couple of other students. The water level was too low to make Scorpion Bay an accessible site, so we took it over to Desert Tortoise Rd. We set up at the end of the road as it curves towards the 10-lane boat ramp. Visibility in that area was in the 10-20' range, depending on depth and location. Water temperature was 85 degrees to the thermocline at 34', then it dropped down to 68 degrees, which was very tolerable in a 7mm suit.

Conditions weren't as great on the north side of the road. Visibility was less than 5' over there. And this was before the rain we got Saturday night. Sunday brought that white cloudy stuff to about 20', which in turn made visibility measurable in inches at that point, but we still had decent conditions in the shallows. All in all, it was a pretty decent weekend for us.

Dive Report - Lake Mohave (updated 12/14/06)
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 25 October 2006
Lake Mohave 12/3/06 - Cabinsite Cove. Visibility was about 20 feet. Water temperature 56 degrees. We had a maximum depth of 61 feet with no thermocline. The water level was down about another 3-5 feet. We came up with some friends from the Phoenix area and met a local diver from Bullhead City that had not been diving here before. We dropped down on the van and checked it out for a few minutes, then headed over towards the bus, but couldn't find it. Part of the reason the visibility was down this month was due to the wind cutting through the canyon, probably 20-25 mph gusts at times, causing the surface water to be choppy and stirring up the particulate in the water. All in all, not the best dive, but not a bad dive either. We'll try Mohave again when the wind dies down!
